Hi Patricia,

Haven’t had the chance to try out LayersWP, but from what I have heard it is a great framework. I plan to do an in-depth review in coming weeks, will let you know once the post is up.

And the more established the framework the stronger the community. Genesis has a slack community 600+ strong, a forum where questions can get answered (sometimes) and decent documentation. And just from a search standpoint, there isn’t really a question http://www.google.com/trends/explore#geo&q=%22genesis+framework%22,+%22ultimatum+framework%22,+%22unyson+framework%22,+%22thesis+framework%22&cmpt=q

Are any of them targeting developers, or do they mostly focus on end-users?

Here’s a question: If you had the choice between two themes that look exactly the same, but one was built on a framework – which would you choose?

Surely the framework would add some unnecessary bloat? Can features (widgets etc) be enabled/disabled?

Perhaps a more in-depth article about one of these frameworks would answer my questions

Glad you found this post helpful, Joy.

You are not alone, I know a lot of bloggers who don’t use Genesis framework. And that’s because it comes with very minimal set of options & features, and everything is done via functions and hooks.

The simple answer is that, if you want to use Genesis, you will also need to purchase / install a child theme to make your blog look good (otherwise it will just be a 2-column design).

You should check out our collection on Top Genesis child themes — https://www.wpkube.com/genesis-child-themes-for-wordpress/

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your rest of the weekend.

Thanks for the helpful explanation.

I must confess I tried Genesis once and did not get on with it at all – but that’s just me! I know many people love it.

Cheers
